BILL TAYLOR & ARETE HONORED AT DRAKE HIGH SCHOOL

Reaching Our Highest Human Potential - Arete

Prior the Homecoming football game, Drake High School honored the career and legacy of Coach William “Bill” Taylor by officially naming our track the “Arete Track.”  The Greek concept of Arete is the founding principle of Bill’s 34 years of coaching Cross Country and Track and Field at Drake; essentially, it is defined as “the act of living up to one’s full potential.”  There to witness the ceremonial unveiling of the “Arete Track” sign were many current and former runners who experienced what it was like to strive for this concept under his tutelage.  Bill even brought with him a vial of dirt from the old track – dirt that stores a collective memory of decades of Drake athletes running countless miles in pursuit of their highest potential.
